LGV/HGV LICENCE
At GC Driver Training we will help drivers to obtain their HGV license; guiding them through the practical and theory tests, the procedures required to obtain a D4 medical certification and even post-qualification certifications such as the CPC, required by drivers wanting to drive HGVs professionally in the UK.
A license to drive an HGV (heavy goods vehicle) or LGV (large goods vehicle) is a requirement for anyone wishing to drive vehicles with goods that weigh over 3,500kg, are rigid or articulated.
Drivers are normally required to pay for their own licenses rather than their employers, although there are some Government schemes available which may allow potential HGV drivers to subsidise their HGV training and testing.
GC Driver Training can facilitate the whole process of getting an HGV license, from helping with the paperwork and finding physicians and testing centres to ensure the process is as smooth as possible and drivers can just focus on driving.
What Do I Need To Get An HGV License?
In order to obtain an HGV license drivers will have to pass a practical examination administered by a licensed testing agency. This will cover the competency of driving HGVs of all sizes including rigid and articulated lorries.
As well as the practical test there is also a theory examination that will need to be passed in order for drivers to fully understand the rules and regulations that will apply to them when they are on the road driving HGVs across the country or continent.
Both of these elements of HGV training can be delivered by GC Driver Training, and we will arrange everything so all drivers need to do is make sure they are ready to take the tests.
HGV License CPC
At GC Driver Training we also offer a Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) for once candidates have their license following the successful completion of a knowledge based examination. For drivers who have previously completed their driver training program this is issued after 35 hours of periodic training. Once complete this will provide drivers with a card which must be carried at all times when driving professionally.
The CPC is a requirement for anyone wishing to drive a HGV as part of their main job. Drivers must complete 35 hours of periodic training every 5 years in order to keep it, contact us today to learn how we can help with CPC renewal or obtaining it for the first time.
