B+E and C1 License

At GC Driver Training we can help drivers obtain their B+E category or C1 category licenses. With our leading experience we can guide drivers through the process, helping with the medicals and paperwork to make obtaining your license as stress-free as possible.

Whether drivers want training  for personal use such as wanting to tow a caravan or horsebox, or if they need a license for work such as tradesmen or ambulance drivers, we can help every step of the way so all drivers need to focus on is the driving rather than the admin.

What Do I Need B+E Training For

For anyone who wishes to pull a caravan behind them with their car, or if they need to pull a horsebox or trailer.

Many insurance policies state that drivers need training to enable them to tow trailers, horseboxes or caravans.

What Is A C1 License?

The C1 license is for drivers wishing to drive vehicles weighing up to 7,500kg. These are typically rigid vans which makes the license essential for tradesmen and women who need to drive vans for their work.

The standard C1 license also allows drivers to pull a small trailer up to 750kg with their C1 class vehicle, but if drivers will need to pull heavier things behind them then a further C1+E license will be required.

The C1 license is also required for paramedics who will need to drive an ambulance, as this is a C1 class vehicle that requires this specific license in order to be driven.

In the case of ambulances, many Universities and paramedic training courses now have a C1 license listed as a requirement for accepting candidates on to courses, a cost which is usually covered by the candidate.

Is There A Medical For C1 Licenses?

In order to pass the C1 exam for the license, drivers will also need to be passed as medically fit to drive with a D4 medical certification.

D4 certifications include a physical assessment by a Doctor or GP which includes blood pressure, eye tests and a number of standard medical assessments to ensure fitness to drive. They also include a mental health assessment and a review of the candidate’s medical history to look at things such as heart disease, diabetes and sleep disorders.

While it is possible for standard GPs to complete these forms there can often be complications, as GPs don’t often have experience with dealing with the DVLA and the D4 paperwork which can lead to length – and costly – delays. At GC Driver Training we can identify a certified physician who has this D4 experience to make the process as seamless as possible.

The physician completing the D4 will submit the assessment to the DVLA who will then review it to ensure candidates are suitable for passing. It is not the responsibility of the physician to pass the candidate, so if candidates have any concerns about their fitness to drive before they go through the assessment we recommend speaking to us for advice.
