There is a medical certification that will be required for any trained driver, called a D4 medical certification. D4 medicals are delivered by trained physicians and will include a physical examination to ensure drivers are able to move appropriately; which will include things like eyesight and blood pressure tests, along with a mental health examination and a review of medical history.

The examination typically takes around 20 minutes, then the physician will complete the D4 medical paperwork and send it to the DVLA, where they will make a decision on whether the candidate is fit to drive. This is not the decision of the physician or the testing agency and is solely on the DVLA, if drivers are concerned about whether they have any fitness or health issues then speak to us beforehand so we can offer advice.
